If you break up w/ the GUY would't be fine to collect back what you've given to him?

considering the financial standing,she always takes care for the bills,but the guy shares effort on fixing any to show gratitude in return,but they split up,is it ok to collect back items given to the guy or wait till he voluntarily do the move
